What People Say About Mathru
Testimonials
The first time I visited Mathru School for the Blind with a group of volunteers was when it was just started. We taught the children music, drawing, knitting and read out stories that transported them to another world. I’ve always enjoyed teaching, but teaching children who were blind was quite a challenge. I learnt Braille in order to teach the blind children effectively. Mathru holds a special place in my heart. I’ve been associated with the school for decades and if you ask me what I like best about the school, I’d say “everything.” To name a few - neatness, cleanliness, design of the buildings, dedication of founder- Muktha and her team of teachers and finally the affectionate, ever smiling children.
We are grateful to Mathru Educational Trust for the Blind and other Disabled for the valuable and selfless partnership with Sense India over the years. Under the able stewardship of Ms. Gubbi R. Muktha, Mathru started its mission of bringing meaning into lives of children with visual impairment and over the years have shown tremendous sensitivity and courage to respond to needs of other disabilities. The addition of children with ‘deafblindness’ through a project supported by APPI and Sense India helped Mathru reach out to about 120 deafblind children and young adults. And it also helped the committed staff and devout management to realise that Mathru needs to open doors for children with Autism, Cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities. I am so glad to see that the management has empowered the executive team to expand its vision to cover vulnerable children in need.
You will be glad to know that with supportive partners like Mathru, Sense India could step up relief during the pandemic and reach out to people with deafblindness and multiple disabilities with emergency support in and around Bengaluru.
Wishing Mathru many many more years of selfless work with children with disabilities.

Since I met Muktha Gubbi the first time in 2003 or 2004, there has not been a moment that I have not admired her passion, simplicity, hard work, grit, perseverance, compassion and total dedication to the service of the needy. I really have my own reservations about certain social activists, who go after name, fame and glamour. But this lady is amazing.
The stark difference that struck me in her schools is the brightness and positive energy that reverberates there. Confident and chirpy children attract all visitors, unlike certain places which are gloomy and depressing. Muktha goes all out to maintain the ambience very clean, beautiful, bright, aesthetic and peaceful with a lot of greenery inside and outside the buildings. My family is ever with her in all her good work and we wish her a long life, good health and blessings of Lord Raghavendra, whom she trusts totally!

In 2003, I saw an article in a Kannada Magazine about Ms. Muktha and her service for blind children. I was impressed and visited the school with my family memers. At that time, the school was running in her residence at Marthinagar, Yelahanka. I was impressed with her dedication to the cause and her ambition of providing quality education to blind children belonging to poor families of Karnataka. Since then, I have been supporting Mathru individually and also through my company Gen Mot Coils.

I am the parent of Chiranth A Shetty, a student at Mathru Residential School for the Hearing Impaired. Since enrolling him last year, we have seen remarkable improvement in his academics and overall development.
Chiranth has a hearing impairment. About 3–4 months ago, Mathru provided him with a hearing aid. Since then, his responsiveness has significantly improved. He is now able to recognize when we call him, respond in his own way, and even attempts to speak. Along with regular speech therapy, this has greatly enhanced his communication skills.
The special educators and staff at Mathru are incredibly dedicated. They take complete responsibility for each child, ensuring they understand concepts thoroughly and are supported in developing essential life skills
. We are deeply grateful to Ms. Muktha, the Founder of Mathru, whose vision and dedication ensure that every child receives the best care and attention possible.

My name is Lakshmi, and for the past five years, I have been serving as the Project Head at the Mathru Vocational Training Unit in Yelahanka New Town.
Mathru Vocational Training Unit is more than just a school—it is a safe haven for both children and educators. At Mathru, we emphasize the quality of education over the quantity of students. The institution is clean, thoughtfully built, and efficiently managed. Our guiding motto is: "Committed to caring for specially-abled children."
The centre caters to differently-abled youth aged 15 to 25, with a focus on empowering them to lead independent lives. We aim to ensure they grow into self-reliant individuals who are not seen as a burden on their families.
Our training includes both foundational academics and hands-on vocational skills such as cooking, gardening, housekeeping, tailoring, paper plate making, and mat weaving.
We are fortunate to receive constant support and inspiration from Ms. Gubbi R. Muktha, the Founder and Managing Trustee of Mathru Educational Trust. Since its establishment in 2001, the Trust has been dedicated to serving children with intellectual and hearing disabilities.
Ms. Muktha’s vision and unwavering dedication continue to inspire and energize all of us at the vocational training centre.
