Day Care for Deafblind and Multisensory Disability

Day Care for Deafblind and Multisensory Disability

Mathru began supporting deafblind and multisensory disabled in 2014, in collaboration with Sense International India, and has independently managed the program since 2023. A dedicated centre in DJ Halli serves 31 individuals through both centre-based and home-based services with trained special educators.

Home visits ensure customized, family-inclusive care, empowering both children and their caregivers. We focus on early intervention, conducting awareness campaigns and helping families access government schemes and services. Professional therapies including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy are provided as needed. Children receive support in communication, mobility, daily living skills, and are encouraged to join mainstream schools where possible.

The centre also has built a platform and created a strong network of parents – ‘Ekta’ to avail the benefits from the concerned department and to protect the rights of the children.

Syed Siddiq

Journey of Progress

When we first met Syed Siddiq during a home visit, he was a child with intellectual disability who struggled with focus and awareness of his surroundings. His attention span was very short, and he would constantly move around, often breaking nearby objects. He was unable to recognize or greet familiar faces and had difficulty understanding basic social norms. Concerned and overwhelmed, his caregivers began restricting his movement for safety.
Through consistent home visits, center-based sessions, personalized training, and parental counselling, we slowly began to see a change. With the help of physiotherapy and dedicated one-on-one support, Siddiq began to improve. Today, he can recognize and greet his caregivers and teachers with a cheerful smile. He is now enrolled in a regular school, marking a significant milestone in his journey.
In addition, Mathru has helped his parents understand and access various government schemes for better healthcare, education, and support—ensuring Siddiq receives the opportunities he deserves.
